Along with other wedding trends, the option of a groom wearing a tux is also something that’s quickly changing. Nowadays, the conventional black and white tux is often exchanged for something matching the groom’s personal style, colors used, or even the wedding theme —be it a casual summer-day wedding, or extravagant, elegant ceremony. Either way, there are lots of options now available besides the original tuxedo. It just goes to show that the groom should wear whatever makes him feel like he’s at his best for his beautiful bride!

For this summer wedding in the Queen’s Courtyard (since renovated), the groom and his groomsmen chose tan suits for a more casual feel. They looked great with the bride and bridesmaids!

With these beautiful grey tuxes, this groom and his groomsmen looked fabulous for the ceremony; their tuxes were a perfect match with the purple bridesmaids’ dresses.

This groom chose his best color, a coral orange. Coordinated with a tan-grey suit, his look is both elegant and casual, matching his style and their wedding.

These groomsmen and their groom chose light tan suits for this wedding, giving it a summer feel even though the sun wasn’t shining!

This past weekend at Castle Farms, we were treated to a unique take on a traditional unity ceremony. During their wedding, the bride and groom, Kim and Jim, placed a tall glass vase on a cocktail table. Next to the vase were two large pitchers filled with clear water.

After exchanging vows, Kim and Jim stepped up to the table and began to pour their individual pitchers of water into the vase to symbolize their individual lives becoming one. This unity ceremony had a unique symbolism in itself, but none of the guests expected what happened next. As the two pitchers of water flowed together in the vase, the water turned blue! Everyone thought they were merely two pitchers of water and an empty vase, but placed in the vase where no one could see were a few small drops of food coloring! A fun wedding trick that guests will always remember, and one that Kim and Jim can tell stories about forever!

Here at Castle Farms, we see everything when it comes to reception decor, and we’re constantly amazed at the creativity couples use in blending their personalities into a reception extravaganza sure to wow their guests. Having trouble deciding exactly what you want? Don’t worry! Take a peek at what some past Castle Couples have done. You’re sure to find the inspiration you’re looking for.

Candy bars: We’ve been seeing more and more pop up at Castle weddings. They’re a great way to combine guest favors, reception décor and wedding fun!

Chalkboard seating chart: Can’t decide on a pattern for a poster? Not exactly fond of cutting and folding 100+ name cards? Adding a whimsical touch by using a chalkboard or other creative object allows you the freedom of making things look exactly how you want them to!

Chocolate covered cake topper: Why let the deliciousness end with the last tier? Top it off with your favorite chocolate covered delight!

Cookie bars: If candy bars don’t exactly satisfy your sweet tooth, this is a great option! Not only do you get the same fun as you would from a candy bar, but you’re able to cut down on wedding cake costs!

Couches for cocktails: Throw in some added comfort for your guests during cocktail hour while you and your new spouse are out getting your first photos as husband and wife. Plus, those dancing souls who need to rest their feet after hitting the dance floor will really appreciate it! These specific couches came from one of our Preferred Service Providers, NM Event Design.

Pomander Balls: We see these every now and then. They’re great for replacing table arrangements and even the traditional bridesmaids’ bouquets. Pomander Balls are cute, unique, and easy to create all by yourself!

Reenacted Movie Posters: We know you love romantic movies nearly as much as your fiancé… combine the two to create something your guests will admire and something you will be able to look back on and smile about forever!

Scrabble messages: Everyone loves traditional board games and the memories they create. Why not give your guests some great flashbacks to simpler old times by incorporating favorite games into your reception in creative ways

Jessica and Bryan were married Labor Day weekend, with their ceremony set to be held in the Queen’s Courtyard and their reception in the King’s Great Hall.

Their wedding day started out beautifully: sunshine, warm weather, and a gorgeous setting. Guests were welcomed into the courtyard by The Hot Club string trio while being seated. The bridesmaids and groomsmen had made their way down the aisle when suddenly, the skies turned grey and rain began to pour!

But Jessica and Bryan didn’t let the rain get in the way. While guests were ushered upstairs to the reception hall, officiant Ed Remaly set up in the center of the dance floor and the trio continued to play. The ceremony began right where it had been interrupted, and Jessica and Bryan became husband and wife.

The reception was just as beautiful, with a cake from Cake Connection TC, flower arrangements from Petals Custom Floral Design and Marvin’s Gardens, catering by Grey Gables and entertainment from Ryan Rousseau of Rusch Entertainment. To read Jessica and Bryan’s entire story, check out their Castle Couple page!

There are so many details to consider when decorating for your wedding and reception. Not only do brides want every aspect of their wedding noticed by their guests, they also want everything to look good! One way to guarantee success is to pick a theme – whether it’s a color, design, season, etc. – and tie it into several different aspects of your wedding. Here are some well-done weddings where theme (and lots of thought!) came into play at the Castle!

Katie and Adam chose a bird theme for their West Garden Room reception. Each table was decorated with birdhouses they’d hand-made and painted, with tiny bird nests (including candied almonds) for guest seating cards.

For their King’s Great Hall reception, Amy and Matthew chose to decorate with lanterns, using different styles and sizes as centerpieces for each table, cocktail table decorations, and even their card box!

Erin and Wesley, with the help of Ele 3 Events, used a stylish purple chrysanthemum flower design to tie together the details of their West Garden Room reception. The flowers bloomed on their ceremony programs, seating cards, table numbers and menus.

Making a festive, seasonal celebration of their wedding, Melissa and Matt chose to decorate their entire wedding and reception with accents of fall. With collaboration from Merry Makers, NM Event Design, BLOOM and Marvin’s Gardens, their Knight’s Castle reception was boasted an array of the season’s greatest aspects … from their treat tower with caramel apples and caramel popcorn, to their wagon full of fall-finds which displayed seating cards.

With so many different and unique ways to decorate your reception tables, the options often can seem overwhelming. Sometimes, it’s best to take a step back and think about the overall vision you want for your wedding. Tall centerpieces with tons of flowers will add an elegant dramatic flair, but using just candles on each table can also be stunning, adding a certain intimacy, simplicity and elegance. Or perhaps you prefer to have a little bit of both. Why not? That’s perfectly acceptable. After all, it’s your special day!

To pull everything together in their Knight’s Castle reception, Kira and Tony rented the Castle’s white candelabras to use for table centerpieces, alternating the height of the candelabras with low flower arrangements on every other table.

Amanda and Chris chose not just two but four alternating table arrangements, creating an organic and elegant look to their reception in the Knight’s Castle.

For their fall reception in the East Garden Room, Keely and Brenden adorned their guest tables with fall-themed flower arrangements, and alternated the arrangements between low vases and tall glass plant stands.

Lindsey and Jeff also chose to alternate between tall branch and low flower arrangements for their reception in the West Garden Room. Their guests were in awe at the dramatic color and height contrasts.

Instead of alternating different levels of arrangements for their West Garden Room reception, Justin and Jill chose to interchange styles and types of centerpieces by using elegant flower arrangements and whimsical candle stands on their guest tables.

Katie and Brian opted out of flower arrangements and —with the help of Merry Makers event planning— created whimsical ball-room glam using several different styles of candelabras and candle holders.

Our newest Castle Couple, Blaine and Becki, brought a first to Castle Farms this July. Bringing the whole family together in their Queen’s Courtyard ceremony, the couple included their girls (and by ‘girls’, we mean beautiful Great Danes!) Lola and Lucy in their wedding party!

Completing their fairytale ceremony with music from harpist Sylvia Norris and a horse-drawn carriage entrance, Becki and Blaine celebrated their long awaited unity with a small, intimate reception in the Queen’s Tavern.
